Have a Question?
Before you contact us, please take a look at our most frequently asked questions below.
1. Why do I need to insure my shipment?
Freight forwarders, clearing agents and shipping lines have limited liability under international conventions for loss or damage to customer’s goods, and it’s best to have marine insurance in place for peace of mind.
2. Do Aviocean handle Dangerous Goods?
Dangerous goods and prohibited items can be arranged in accordance with national and international ADR regulations. Please contact us directly as these goods need to be arranged separately and we can determine a suitable solution for your needs.
3. How much is my shipment or airfreight going to cost?
It depends on distance, size and weight of goods, current trading conditions and type of cargo and mode of transport. We will prepare an estimate for you when you provide the following information:
- Port/airport of origin
- Description of cargo
- Value of cargo
- INCO term
- How cargo is going to be packed
- Dimensions of each carton (length, width, depth). If cargo is palletized, these dimensions are to be provided.
- Weight of each carton
- Sea, air or road
- Final destination delivery address
4. How do I pack/wrap my goods?
The shipper is responsible for the correct packing of cargo before it is dispatched, so please ensure that you instruct your supplier to package goods in the correct manner to avoid damage to the goods. Goods palletized must be fastened onto pallets that can be handled with a fork lift or manual fork wagon. Under-filled boxes are easily collapsed, where overloaded cartons may burst during transit. Use high quality materials for their strength, cushioning and durability. Use heavy-duty double layered board for valuable and fragile items. Make use of cushioning materials to stop your goods from moving. Liquids must be stored in leak-proof containers, packed in Styrofoam and sealed with plastic bags. Semi-liquids should be sealed with adhesive tape then wrapped in grease-proof paper. Powers and fine grains should be stored in strong plastic bags, sealed securely and then packed in an outer carton. Use "arrow up" labels where applicable and fragile cargo should have the appropriate labels on the outer cartons.
5. What is the maximum size and weight shipment that Aviocean can handle?
Aviocean will arrange shipments from as small as a single carton through to out-of-gauge cargo.
6. Why are shipping rates so changeable?
There are "slow" and "peak" seasons during the year, dependent on market demand and when there are space issues, shipping lines introduce a GRI (general rate increase) or a PSS (peak season surcharge). In addition bunker fuel charges fluctuate with rise and fall of the price of oil.
7. What is the service area of your company?
We have a network of global partners and are able to ship anywhere in the world.
